Fynbos Service Centre

Why do we fundraise?

Why do we fundraise?

In 1984 a group of local community members realised that one day in the future, Kleinmond would need a Care Facility for the elderly. They sold thousands of pancakes over the last 40 years to purchase land and start building the village now known as Fynbos Park. All this whilst delivering services at the community centre in the Old NG Church building in 1st Avenue.

The needs of the elderly has grown by 34% just in the 2022/2023 period equating to more feet moving through our doors and also needing more than what we currently can offer them. This is putting a lot of pressure on us to get the assisted living / old age home built.

Being a NPO and wanting to ensure the residents pay as little as possible for this facility we need to build it without any loans. So we fundraise. Pancakes and Bazaars simply cannot raise enough funds in a short period. The original people are either passed away now or in care homes in other towns. A remnant remains, who still carry the dream forward. The baton has been handed down to the next generation to complete what has been started.

Will you become part of this decades old dream?

There is still a goal – and now an urgent one – to raise a further R6 million to add to the R18 million already raised. Building costs have escalated and continue to do so. We are putting every effort forth to raise these funds this year so that in 2024 we can start on the facility and hopefully by 2025 can open our doors to the elderly.

It could be your parents, grand-parents or even yourselves that would need care and may not be able to afford the commercial fees which are currently in excess of R20 000 per month.
